Undergraduates to work on industry projects with companies based in Chongqing, China
Singapore, 9 April 2021 –
- In an effort to widen students’ exposure to global industry projects amid COVID-19 travel restrictions, the Singapore Institute of Technology (SIT) is partnering human resources consultancy WiseNet Asia Pte Ltd, and the Chongqing Yubei District People’s Government (YDPG) to offer industry collaboration opportunities. These opportunities are set to benefit students from the university’s Engineering and Infocomm Technology clusters, as part of their Integrated Work Study Programme (IWSP).
- Students will gain opportunities to interact with and learn from technology companies based in the Yubei District, home to the flourishing tech and innovation hub Xiantao International Big Data Valley, where more than 700 companies such as Intel and Microsoft have set up offices. Students will work remotely on programming and software engineering projects for an initial period of one trimester (four months). Physical on-site work attachments and industry visits to Chongqing, China, will commence when travel situations improve, with accommodation, meals and student visas sponsored by YDPG.
- In addition to enhancing students’ applied learning experiences, the partnership also seeks to leverage each party’s strengths, experience, and capabilities to facilitate talent development and mobility between Chongqing and Singapore. As part of the agreement, SIT will contribute to the upskilling of Chongqing’s professionals through its Engineering and Infocomm Technology-related Continuing Education and Training (CET) courses.

SINGAPORE, 13 May 2020 – To support undergraduates seeking internships in an uncertain market amid the COVID-19 pandemic, Nanyang Technological University, Singapore (NTU Singapore) is partnering human resources consultancy WiseNet Asia, and the Chongqing Yubei District People’s Government (YDPG) to offer internship opportunities in areas such as big data and artificial intelligence (AI).
NTU Deputy President and Provost Professor Ling San, WiseNet Asia Consulting Director Mr Diron Chua, and Communist Party of China Yubei District Committee Vice Secretary Mr Tan Qing inked the agreement yesterday at the fifth Joint Implementation Committee Meeting for the China-Singapore (Chongqing) Demonstration Initiative on Strategic Connectivity, at The Treasury building, Singapore. Mr Tan, who is also the Chief Executive of YDPG, signed the agreement remotely via video conferencing.
Joining them at the event were Minister for Trade and Industry Chan Chun Sing, Minister for Manpower and Second Minister for Home Affairs Josephine Teo. Chongqing Party Secretary Chen Min’er, and Chongqing Mayor Tang Liangzhi witnessed the signing through video conferencing.
The collaboration seeks to leverage each party’s strengths, experience, and capabilities in order to facilitate increased collaboration in talent development and mobility between Chongqing, China and Singapore.
Prof Ling San said: “During this period of unprecedented challenges, it is even more crucial to give our students a competitive edge in securing employment. Internships to start second half of 2020
The placements that are expected to start in the second half of this year will see NTU students being offered internship opportunities in the Yubei District, as well as industry networking opportunities, with the help of YDPG and WiseNet.
In addition to being given an allowance, students who are successfully recruited as interns will have their visas, accommodation and meals taken care of.
WiseNet will coordinate with companies on the selection and placement of potential interns, while YPDG will take care of the students’ visas, accommodation and meals for up to six months.
As part of the agreement, NTU will contribute to the human capital development of executives in Chongqing through its postgraduate programmes and executive courses.

SINGAPORE, 19 Dec 2019 – Last Friday, China issued the first batch of internship S2 visa to 19 foreign students from the National University of Singapore who arrived at Chongqing under the Singapore (Chongqing) Youth Talent Program. Prior to this, China did not have an internship visa for foreign college students.
The talent program is a collaboration project between WiseNet Asia, Chongqing Yubei District Talent Service Center and Xiantao Big Data Valley, and is part of the Chongqing Connectivity Initiative, the third government-to-government joint project between China and Singapore. The talent program agreement was signed by all three parties on 11 September during the Singapore-China (Chongqing) Economic and Trade Cooperation Forum, jointly organized by the Ministry of Trade and Industry, Enterprise Singapore and Chongqing Municipality.
The Singapore (Chongqing) Youth Talent Program aims to be a platform for China-Singapore young talents exchanges and cooperation, as well as employment and entrepreneurship. Based on the joint service mechanism formed by the talent’s office of Yubei District Party Committee, Yubei District Human Resources and Social Security Bureau, Yubei Youth League District Committee and other departments, the program provides free accommodation of up to 6 months for eligible young talents at home and abroad, and short-term personal accident insurance.
30 students from the National University of Singapore will go through a 5-weeks internship training in Xiantao International Big Data Valley Park. The students consist of Singaporean, Malaysian, Vietnamese and Chinese nationalities. They have graduated from sophomore to postgraduate level, covering computer, electronic engineering, economics, financial engineering, business analysis, business administration and other majors. The duration of this internship will be extended to 6 months in the future.
As the core big data intelligent industrial base in Chongqing, Xiantao Data Valley has gathered together a total of 764 high-tech companies. The first batch of students will enter Huawei’s Chongqing Innovation Center, China Automotive, Chongqing Xiantao Consumer Insight Research and Big Data Co, Transsion Communication Technology Company, Xiantao College and other representative companies in the valley.
Ethan Neo, Head of Operations, WiseNet Asia said, “We are in talks with other universities in Singapore and have already confirmed the next one. We are planning to bring about 100 students to Chongqing for internship next summer.”

Xiantao Data Valley welcomes the first batch of young talents from the National University of Singapore
This morning (9th), Xiantao International Big Data Valley (referred to as Xiantao Data Valley) in Chongqing held a welcome meeting for the first batch of internship students from the National University of Singapore (NUS). The 30 young talents from the National University of Singapore will conduct a 5-week cross-country internship training in Xiantao International Big Data Valley Park. According to the relevant person in charge of Yubei District, under the first batch of 30 internship cooperation plans, the first batch of students will enter Huawei’s Chongqing Innovation Center, China Automotive Research Institute, Xiantao Frontier Consumer Company, Transsion Communication Technology Company, Xiantao College and other representative companies in the valley. The 30 students have graduated from sophomore to postgraduate level, covering computer, electronic engineering, economics, financial engineering, business analysis, business administration and other advantageous majors. The duration of this internship is five weeks, and the internship period will be gradually extended to 6 months in the future.
Chongqing Evening News reporters learned that the Yubei District High-level Talent Service Center, Xiantao International Big Data Valley, and Singapore’s WiseTern Asia, National University of Singapore, etc. have carried out in-depth cooperation agreements to jointly launch the Singapore (Chongqing) Youth Talent Station. It aims to take the lead in promoting interactive exchanges between young talents in Singapore and Chongqing. Yubei Youth Talent Development Station has launched 10 preferential policies, such as:
Subsidy for employment, food and accommodation for entrepreneurship: For graduates of relevant majors who come to Yubei for entrepreneurship and employment, they can provide free board and lodging for up to 3 months upon confirmation, and purchase short-term personal accident insurance. For graduates who are not yet employed or in the early stages of starting a business, they will be given a half-price subsidy for room and board for up to 3 months after confirmation.
Financial discount interest for start-up guarantee loans: College graduates and related vocational school graduates who lack the liquidity to start a business can apply for a start-up guarantee loan of up to 300,000 yuan. The maximum loan period is 3 years, and the interest is discounted according to the regulations. The project has a special 300,000 yuan full discount.
One-time start-up subsidy: College graduates (including those who return from studying abroad) who are registered as unemployed within 2 years of graduation. As legal representatives of small start ups and micro enterprises are entitled to a one-time start-up subsidy of 8,000 yuan per entity if they meet the corresponding conditions.
Participation in paid internships during vacations: If college students voluntarily sign up for paid holiday internships during college breaks, the internship unit will provide a basic living allowance of 50 yuan per person per working day during the internship.

The summit was co-hosted by the Ministry of Commerce of the People’s Republic of China, the People’s Bank of China, the China Banking and Insurance Regulatory Commission, the China Securities Regulatory Commission, the State Administration of Foreign Exchange and the Chongqing municipal government, as well as the Ministry of Trade and Industry and the Monetary Authority of Singapore.

Singapore, 11 September 2019 – The Singapore-China (Chongqing) Economic and Trade Cooperation Forum, jointly organised by the Ministry of Trade and Industry, Enterprise Singapore and Chongqing Municipal People’s Government, was held today in Singapore.
Mr Chan Chun Sing, Minister for Trade and Industry, and Mr Chen Min’er, Member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee and Secretary of Chongqing Municipal Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) graced the forum and delivered speeches. Mr Hong Xiaoyong, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People’s Republic of China to the Republic of Singapore, Mr Wu Cunrong, Member of the Standing Committee, the CPC Chongqing Municipal Committee; Executive Vice Mayor of the Chongqing Municipal People’s Government, and Mr Teo Siong Seng, Chairman of the Singapore Business Federation also spoke at the event. Mr Chan and Mr Chen also launched the China-Singapore (Chongqing) International Data Channel (IDC), which is China’s first point-to-point international data channel with another country. More than 500 Singapore and Chongqing business leaders and government officials attended the forum.
During the event, one of the projects signed is between WiseNet Asia Pte Ltd – Chongqing Xiantao Big Data Valley Investment and Administration Co., Ltd – Chongqing Yubei District High-level Talent Service Center.
This is a collaboration to provide internship and job opportunities for overseas young talents in Chongqing Xiantao Big Data Valley and Yubei District. WiseNet Asia will also introduce training programmes for key leaders and business professionals in Chongqing.
