These are the soft factors that make up successful leaders.”

Internships to start second half of 2020

The placements that are expected to start in the second half of this year will see NTU students being offered internship opportunities in the Yubei District, as well as industry networking opportunities, with the help of YDPG and WiseNet.

In addition to being given an allowance, students who are successfully recruited as interns will have their visas, accommodation and meals taken care of.

WiseNet will coordinate with companies on the selection and placement of potential interns, while YPDG will take care of the students’ visas, accommodation and meals for up to six months.

As part of the agreement, NTU will contribute to the human capital development of executives in Chongqing through its postgraduate programmes and executive courses.

SINGAPORE,  19 Dec 2019 – Last Friday, China issued the first batch of internship S2 visa to 19 foreign students from the National University of Singapore who arrived at Chongqing under the Singapore (Chongqing) Youth Talent Program.  Prior to this, China did not have an internship visa for foreign college students.

The talent program is a collaboration project between WiseNet Asia, Chongqing Yubei District Talent Service Center and Xiantao Big Data Valley, and is part of the Chongqing Connectivity Initiative, the third government-to-government joint project between China and Singapore.   The talent program agreement was signed by all three parties on 11 September during the Singapore-China (Chongqing) Economic and Trade Cooperation Forum, jointly organized by the Ministry of Trade and Industry, Enterprise Singapore and Chongqing Municipality.

The Singapore (Chongqing) Youth Talent Program aims to be a platform for China-Singapore young talents exchanges and cooperation, as well as employment and entrepreneurship. Based on the joint service mechanism formed by the talent’s office of Yubei District Party Committee, Yubei District Human Resources and Social Security Bureau, Yubei Youth League District Committee and other departments, the program provides free accommodation of up to 6 months for eligible young talents at home and abroad, and short-term personal accident insurance.

30 students from the National University of Singapore will go through a 5-weeks internship training in Xiantao International Big Data Valley Park.  The students consist of Singaporean, Malaysian, Vietnamese and Chinese nationalities.  They have graduated from sophomore to postgraduate level, covering computer, electronic engineering, economics, financial engineering, business analysis, business administration and other majors. The duration of this internship will be extended to 6 months in the future.

As the core big data intelligent industrial base in Chongqing, Xiantao Data Valley has gathered together a total of 764 high-tech companies. The first batch of students will enter Huawei’s Chongqing Innovation Center, China Automotive, Chongqing Xiantao Consumer Insight Research and Big Data Co, Transsion Communication Technology Company, Xiantao College and other representative companies in the valley.

Ethan Neo, Head of Operations, WiseNet Asia said, “We are in talks with other universities in Singapore and have already confirmed the next one. We are planning to bring about 100 students to Chongqing for internship next summer.”

13 December 2019, the staff of the Exit-Entry Administration of the Municipal Public Security Bureau came to Xiantao Big Data Valley to issue internship visas for 19 foreign interns who participated in the Singapore (Chongqing) Youth Talent Program. This is also the first batch of foreign university students who are issued student internship visa by the Chongqing Police.

All these foreign students came from the National University of Singapore, and their internship in Chongqing lasted for 5 weeks. After submitting the foreigner’s face-to-face application registration form, company invitation letter and other application materials, in just 10 minutes, they completed the visa renewal for internship in China. Yida, a student at the National University of Singapore, said: “I think there is a lot of room for development in China.  If you are considering about working in China, you just have to look at the opportunity available after graduation.”

Before this, China did not have an internship visa for foreign college students. To facilitate an ‘opening up’ policy, the Exit-Entry Administration of the Municipal Public Security Bureau has specifically sought approval from the National Immigration Bureau. Foreign college students can come to Chongqing to participate in internships through the S2 “Private Affairs Short-term Visa”. Zhong Qian, a police officer of the Exit-Entry Administration Bureau of the Municipal Public Security Bureau, said: “For an enterprise in the Pilot Free Trade Zone, as long as it has registered for an application, they can bring in overseas college students for internships.”

Luo Xiufeng, Commissioner of Human Resources Department of Chongqing Nuoersi Education Technology Group, said: “It is also conducive to our company to recruit more excellent overseas talents abroad in the later stage .”

Ethan Neo, Manager of Singapore WiseNet Asia said, ” We are in talks with other universities in Singapore and have already confirmed the next one. We are planning to bring about 100 students to Chongqing for internship next summer.

The 2019 Second China Headhunting Industry Development Summit is successfully held on June 21st in Chongqing Human Resources Service Industrial Park.

On this occasion, our general manager Ms Karen Woong accepted an interview from Hualong.com.  According to Ms Woong, “Successfully hunting a senior talent is sometimes more like a psychological game.”  According to the “2019 Headhunting Industry Insight Report”, the headhunting process starts from the commissioning of the recruitment assignment whereby a recruitment project takes an average of 1-3 months to complete.  An average 45.67% of the headhunters complete a recruitment project within a period of about 3 months.  The people in the industry describe hunting talents as comparable to the pursuit of love.

Ms Karen Woong, General Manager, Chongqing WiseNet Asia Co., Ltd

From HR to headhunting for more than 10 years, Ms Karen Woong, General Manager of Chongqing WiseNet Asia Co., Ltd. bluntly said that it is a “marriage” for the company and talents.  Everything has variables. Once, to look for a sales director of an international company, the company picked an Italian from 10 recommended candidates, the two sides hit it off.  The candidate has three days to enter the job, but in the last minute said that he “does not want to jump”, which means that the year-long hunting plan has been abandoned. “My wife is pregnant, and there is no way for the company to take care of the family at this time.”  The candidate is apologetic.  In addition, the original company treated the welfare of the employees’ family members, which was obviously better than the new company.  Ms Karen Woong did not break the connection with the candidates. She recalled: “After a year, the job vacancy still exist, the client company once again proposed to recruit others. This time, the candidate who once rejected showed me his network, this single business was then successfully completed.”

An industry insider revealed that the high-end candidates are all “airborne soldiers”.  Whether they can control the team and survive in the enterprise, they also need the follow-up service of the headhunter.  “When the candidate failed to survive the three-month guarantee period, the headhunting company will only get 50% of the value of the order.” Previously, to help a packaging printing company in Singapore to find a professional and technical personnel, Ms Karen Woong turned to find the right person in India. When the other party flew from India to Singapore, a person came to the channel with his luggage. Ms Karen Woong decided to become his first local friend, this means one-to-one orientation including eating habits, cultural atmosphere, taking him to the supermarket, so that he can get used to the local life as soon as possible.  This year’s Spring Festival, the candidate’s phone call made Ms Karen Woong feel warm: “He said that when he returned to Singapore during the Spring Festival, he hoped to introduce his wife to me.”For many years, Ms Karen Woong often received something from the family members of the candidates such as greetings, hand-made desserts, etc.  The master of profound psychology, Ms Karen Woong feels that headhunting is a business that needs long term ‘efforts’, whereby you need to really think what is best for the job candidates and let them give you their heart. Headhunters often need to go out with candidates or customers to expand their network. They once recruited professional management talents for an international airport, whereby Ms Karen Woong flew directly to the Maldives.  This is a headhunting life exactly as shown in the TV series.
