SINGAPORE, 19 Dec 2019 – Last Friday, China issued the first batch of internship S2 visa to 19 foreign students from the National University of Singapore who arrived at Chongqing under the Singapore (Chongqing) Youth Talent Program. Prior to this, China did not have an internship visa for foreign college students.
The talent program is a collaboration project between WiseNet Asia, Chongqing Yubei District Talent Service Center and Xiantao Big Data Valley, and is part of the Chongqing Connectivity Initiative, the third government-to-government joint project between China and Singapore. The talent program agreement was signed by all three parties on 11 September during the Singapore-China (Chongqing) Economic and Trade Cooperation Forum, jointly organized by the Ministry of Trade and Industry, Enterprise Singapore and Chongqing Municipality.
The Singapore (Chongqing) Youth Talent Program aims to be a platform for China-Singapore young talents exchanges and cooperation, as well as employment and entrepreneurship. Based on the joint service mechanism formed by the talent’s office of Yubei District Party Committee, Yubei District Human Resources and Social Security Bureau, Yubei Youth League District Committee and other departments, the program provides free accommodation of up to 6 months for eligible young talents at home and abroad, and short-term personal accident insurance.
30 students from the National University of Singapore will go through a 5-weeks internship training in Xiantao International Big Data Valley Park. The students consist of Singaporean, Malaysian, Vietnamese and Chinese nationalities. They have graduated from sophomore to postgraduate level, covering computer, electronic engineering, economics, financial engineering, business analysis, business administration and other majors. The duration of this internship will be extended to 6 months in the future.
As the core big data intelligent industrial base in Chongqing, Xiantao Data Valley has gathered together a total of 764 high-tech companies. The first batch of students will enter Huawei’s Chongqing Innovation Center, China Automotive, Chongqing Xiantao Consumer Insight Research and Big Data Co, Transsion Communication Technology Company, Xiantao College and other representative companies in the valley.
Ethan Neo, Head of Operations, WiseNet Asia said, “We are in talks with other universities in Singapore and have already confirmed the next one. We are planning to bring about 100 students to Chongqing for internship next summer.”
